케냐, 법원 명령에 따라 선거 재실시 가능 (E)

케냐 정부는, 법원이 새로운 선거를 명령할 경우, 대통령 선거를 다시 실시하자는 제의를 받아들일 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

움웨이 키바키 대통령의 대변인은 4일 나이로비에서 기자들에게 이같이 밝혔습니다.

그는 야당 ‘오렌지민주운동’이 300여명의 사망자를 낸 소요사태를 종식시키기 위해 재선거를 실시할 것을 요구한 뒤에 이같이 말했습니다.

앞서 야당은, 이 문제를 법원의 판결에 맡기자는 제의를 거부하고, 현재 법원은 대통령의 동맹자들에 의해 장악되고 있다고 지적했습니다.

야당 지도자들은 정부가 키바키의 재선을 확실히 하기 위해 지난 27일에 대통령 선거를 조작했다고 비난하고 있습니다.

The Kenyan government says it will accept a re-run of last week's disputed presidential election, if a court orders a new vote.

A spokesman for President Mwai Kibaki, Alfred Mutua, made the comment to reporters in Nairobi today (Friday). He spoke after the opposition Orange Democratic Movement called for new elections to end days of deadly unrest that has killed more than 300 people.

The opposition previously has rejected the idea of going to the courts, saying the judiciary is controlled by allies of the president.

Opposition leaders accuse the government of rigging last Thursday's election to ensure Mr. Kibaki's re-election.

Security forces were deployed around Nairobi today to prevent a planned opposition protest. Witnesses say that by late afternoon there was no sign a mass rally was developing. (미국의 소리 2008.1.4)
