차기 유엔사무총장에 한국의 반기문 장관 유력
	유엔 안보리는 차기 사무총장에 한국의 반기문 외교통상부 장관을 정식 후보로 유엔총회에 추천할 전망입니다. 올해로 2기 째를 10년의 임기를 마치게 되는 아난 유엔사무총장의 후임선출과 관련해 유엔 안보리는 일본시간으로 3일 오전 5시부터 4번 째 모의투표를 실시했습니다. 이번 투표는 거부권을 행사할 수 있는 상임이사국의 표 행방을 처음으로 알 수 있는 방식으로 치뤄지는 것이어서 차기 사무총장을 전망하는 결정적인 투표로 이목이 집중됐습니다. 투표 결과 한국의 반기문 외교통상부장관이 14개국의 지지를 받아 과거 3차례의 투표 결과와 같이 이번에도 1위를 차지했습니다. 반기문 씨에 대해서는 5개 상임이사국이 모두 지지를 표명했지만 나머지 5명의 후보에 대해서는 상임이사국이 반대표를 내, 반기문 씨의 차기 사무총장 선출이 확실시 되고 있습니다. 안보리는 오는 9일 쯤 반기문 씨를 유엔총회에 차기 사무총장 후보로 추천할 전망입니다. 반기문 씨는 62살로 유엔대사 등을 역임한 후 2004년 한국 외쿄통상부장관에 취임해 북한의 핵개발문제 등 일본과 관계국 사이의 교섭에 임해 왔습니다. 반기문 씨가 선출되면 아시아 출신으로서는 1971년까지 재임했던 당시 버마의 우탄트 씨 이래 35년 만이며 동아시아에서는 첫 유엔 사무총장이 됩니다.

S.Korean foreign minister wins informal UN leadership race

South Korean Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister, Ban Ki Moon, has cemented his position as the front-runner to succeed UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, after winning an informal UN Security Council poll. The UN Security Council on Monday held its 4th informal poll on the next chief of the world body. In the poll, Mr Ban received 14 votes, including all 5 permanent members of the council, and topped the other five candidates as in the three previous votes. Every other candidate received at least one veto, although India's Shashi Tharoor, the head of the UN Department of Public Information, got 10 votes. The informal poll was the first to distinguish between permanent members -- Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States -- and the other 10 nations by using different colored ballot sheets. After the poll, China's UN Ambassador to the UN, Wang Guangya told reporters that it is quite clear from the straw poll that Mr Ban is the candidate that the Security Council will recommend to the General Assembly. US Ambassador John Bolton also welcomed the results of the poll. The Security Council is expected to hold a formal vote next week.(NHK)
