US indicts 5 for failed NY subway bomb plot

 

 The US Justice Department has indicted former Al-Qaeda leader Adnan el-Shukrijumah and 4 other men in connection with a failed plot to bomb New York City's subway system last September.

Prosecutors said on Wednesday that the men recruited several would-be suicide bombers in Pakistan and the United States in 2008 and trained them in bomb-making.

The plot failed when one of the recruits was arrested in September 2009.

Prosecutors say he had sent an e-mail to the group just before his arrest saying that a wedding was ready, apparently referring to the planned subway bombing.
