러시아, EU에 우크라이나 가스 수송관 감시 요청 (E)

러시아가 서유럽으로 공급되는 가스를 우크라이나 정부가 훔치고 있다고 비난한 데 이어 러시아의 국영 천연가스 회사인 가즈프롬은 유럽 연합에게 우크라이나의 가스 수송관들을 감시해 줄 것을 요청했습니다.

이 같은 요청은 서유럽으로 공급되는 가스 가운데 2천 5백만 입방 미터 상당을 우크라이나가 훔쳐갔다는 가즈프롬의 새로운 비난과 함께 4일 모스크바에서 발표됐습니다.

러시아는 또한 매 1천 입방 미터당 418달러인 천연가스 가격을 450달러로 인상할 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

이에 대해 우크라이나의 국영 에너지 회사 나프토가즈 측은 러시아의 이 같은 비난을 일축하면서 러시아는 겨울철 영하 이하의 날씨에 직면해 있는 유럽 나라들에게 수송되는 가스 량을 고의적으로 감축해 왔다고 주장했습니다.

Russia's state-run natural gas giant, Gazprom, has asked the European Union to monitor gas flow through pipelines in Ukraine, after Moscow again accused the Kyiv government of stealing gas bound for Western Europe.

The appeal was announced today (Sunday)in Moscow, along with new Gazprom accusations that Ukraine stole 25-million cubic meters of gas bound for Western countries. Moscow also said it is raising its price from 418 dollars per one thousand cubic meters of gas, to 450 dollars per unit.

The Ukrainian utility, Naftohaz, denies siphoning gas and says Moscow has deliberately reduced gas flow to European customers facing sub-freezing winter temperatures. A Naftohaz official renewed those accusations today (in Kyiv).

The European Union is demanding that existing gas transit contracts be honored. But officials in the Czech Republic, which chairs the rotating EU presidency, so far have shunned a direct role in the dispute.
