짐바브웨 정부, 아난 전 UN 사무총장 방문 불허 (E)

전직 유엔 사무총장과 전직 미국 대통령은 짐바브웨의 로버트 무가베 정권으로부터 입국을 거부당했습니다.

코피 아난 전 사무총장과 지미 카터 전 미 대통령, 인권운동가 그라사 마셸은 콜레라 발병 상황을 직접 둘러보기 위해 22일 짐바브웨에 도착할 예정이었습니다.

아난 전 사무총장은 남아프리카공화국 요하네스버그에서 기자회견을 열고, 짐바브웨 정부가 이들의 인도주의적 활동에 협력하지 않을 것임을 분명히 했다고 말했습니다. 무가베 정권은 이들에게 여행 비자를 발급하지 않았습니다

짐바브웨 정부는 이들의 방문이 "당파적"이라고 지적했습니다. 짐바브웨 정부는 이들이 짐바브웨 야당 민주변혁운동을 지지한다고 지적했습니다.

한편, 짐바브웨 국영지 헤럴드는 현재 콜레라 전염병이 전체 10개 주 중 9개 주로 번졌다고 21일 보도했습니다.

The former United Nations chief and a former U.S. president have canceled a planned humanitarian visit to Zimbabwe after being denied entry into the country by President Robert Mugabe's government.

Kofi Annan and Jimmy Carter, along with human rights campaigner Graca Machel, were scheduled to visit Zimbabwe today (Saturday)for a first-hand look at the emerging cholera crisis.

Mr. Annan said today (Saturday)in Johannesburg that the Zimbabwean government made it "clear" it will not cooperate with the group's humanitarian effort. Mr. Mugabe's government did not give the group travel visas.

Zimbabwe has said the visit by Mr. Annan and Mr. Carter is a "partisan mission." The government says the delegation is backing the opposition group (Movement for Democratic Change)which stripped Mr. Mugabe's (ZANU-PF)party of its parliamentary majority in March elections.

Zimbabwe's state-run "Herald" newspaper said Friday the nation's cholera epidemic has spread to nine of the country's 10 provinces.
