이명박 한국 대통령당선자가 새 정부 총리후보에 외교관이자 경제학자 출신인 한승수 씨를 지명했습니다.

이 당선자는 28일 기자회견에서 현재 유엔기후변화특사로 활동 중인 한승수 씨를 새 정부 총리후보에 지명했다고 밝혔습니다.

이 당선자는 한 후보가 "새 정부가 지향하는 경제를 살리고 통상과 자원외교를 할 수 있는 가장 적격자로 생각했다"고 말했습니다.

지난해 12월 대통령에 당선된 이 후보는 다음달 취임하며, 미국과의 관계를 강화하겠다고 공약한 바 있습니다.

한 후보가 총리로 정식 임명되기 위해서는,야당이 우세한 국회의 인준을 받아야 합니다.

South Korean President-elect Lee Myung-bak has nominated a veteran diplomat and economist to be his prime minister.

Mr. Lee told a news conference today (Monday) that he appointed Han Seung-soo, currently serving as a special UN envoy on climate change, to the office.

Lee called Han the best person to achieve the goal of reinvigorating the economy and said the new prime minister would engage in global diplomacy to secure the energy supplies that resource-poor South Korea has to import.

Mr. Lee, who was elected in December, has pledged to strengthen ties with the United States when he takes office next month.

Parliament, which is dominated by Mr. Lee's opponents, must confirm Han's appointment.. (미국의 소리)
