8번째 영국 테러 기도 용의자 호주에서 체포 (E)

호주 경찰은 런던과 글라스고  공항 차량폭탄공격 미수사건과 관련해 여덟번째 용의자를 구금했습니다.

호주 당국은 영국 당국의 제보에 따라 2일 오후 브리스베인 공항에서 편도 항공권을 갖고 출국하려던 27세의 인도 출신의 무하마드 하니프를 체포했습니다.

영국 당국은 용의자 하니프가 현재 영국에서 구금 중인 다른 의사들과 같은 병원에서 근무한 후에 지난해에 호주 브리스베인으로 이주했다고 말했습니다.

존 하워드 호주 총리는 또 현재 경찰이 브리스베인에서 두번째 의사 한 명을 조사하고 있다고 밝혔습니다.

영국 경찰은 현재 구금중인 8명의 용의자 가운데 4명이 인도, 이라크, 요르단 출신의 의사로 신원을 확인했습니다.

경찰은 3일 영국 서북부지역에서 트럭으로 가스통을 운반하던 2명을 구금했습니다. 이들에게서 용의점은 발견되지 않았지만,  경찰의 이같은 조치가 알-카에다와 연관된 것인지는 밝혀지지 않았습니다.

Australian police have detained an eighth suspect in the failed car bombing plots in London and Glasgow, Scotland.

Australian authorities, acting on information provided by British officials, apprehended the 27-year-old Indian national (Muhammad Hannif) at Brisbane airport late Monday as he tried to leave the country on a one-way ticket.

British authorities say the doctor moved to Brisbane last year, after working at the same hospital in Britain as another suspect now in British custody. Australian Prime Minister John Howard said police also are interviewing a second physician in Brisbane.

British police have identified four of the eight suspects in custody today (Tuesday) as medical doctors, including physicians from India, Iraq and Jordan. Additionally, police in northwestern England detained two people in a truck delivering gas canisters. No charges have been filed and it is not clear whether that police action is linked to the attacks.(미국의 소리 2007.7.3)
