영국 경찰, 테러기도 용의자 2명 추가 체포 (E)

테러 용의자로 체포된 모하메드 아샤

영국 경찰은 최근 런던과 스코틀랜드의 글래스고 공항에서 일어난 연쇄 차량폭탄공격사건과 관련해 용의자 2명을 추가로 구금했다고 밝혔습니다.

경찰 당국은 1일 글래스고에서 반테러법에 따라 25살과 28살의 용의자 두 명을 체포했다고 말했습니다.

자키 스미스 영국 내무장관은 의회에서 이번 사건과 관련해 현재 체포된 용의자가 모두 6명이라고 밝혔습니다.

스미스 장관은 일곱번째 용의자는 지난 30일 글래스고 공항 터미널에 차량을 돌진해 충돌하면서 화염에 휩싸인 차량 안에 있다가 심한 화상을 입고 현재 글래스고의 한 병원에서 가료중이라고 말했습니다.

일부 언론은 이 병원 바깥에 조종장치가 된 폭발물이 설치됐다고 보도했지만, 경찰은 구체적인 내용을 밝히지 않았습니다.

영국 언론들은 글래스고에서 체포된 한 명은 이라크에서 공부한 의사인 비랄 압둘라이며, 리버플  인근 고속도로상에서 체포된 다른 한 명은 요르단에서 의과대학을 마친 의사 모하메드 아샤라고 보도했습니다.

British police have detained two more suspects in the recent series of attempted car bombings in London and Scotland's largest city, Glasgow.

Authorities say the suspects were arrested Sunday near Glasgow under anti-terrorism laws. British Home Secretary (Interior Minister) Jacqui Smith told parliament six people are under arrest in the case. She said a seventh is in a Glasgow hospital for treatment of severe burns received Saturday when he rammed a vehicle into the city's airport terminal.

Controlled detonations were reported outside the hospital, but police provided no details.

News media reports quote police sources as identifying one of those arrested at Glasgow airport as (Bilal Abdullah) an Iraqi-trained medical doctor and another detained on a highway near Liverpool as (Mohammed Asha) a physician who completed medical school in Jordan.

Friday, two unexploded car bombs were found in the entertainment district of central London. Authorities found gas canisters, gasoline and nails inside the vehicles.

The Home Secretary said police have searched 19 locations around the country and thanked all those involved in security operations. She called the attacks actions against the values shared by all law-abiding citizens and said the public will not be intimidated by terrorism.(미국의 소리 2007.7.3)
