파키스탄, 인도에 뭄바이 테러 공동수사 제안 (E)

지난주 175명의 목숨을 앗아간 인도 뭄바이 테러사건과 관련해, 파키스탄 정부가 인도에 공동 수사를 제안했습니다. 앞서 인도는 파키스탄에 거주하고 있는 테러용의자 20명의 신변을 인도하도록 요청한 바 있습니다.

샤 메무드 쿠레시 파키스탄 외무장관은 2일 완전한 수사 협조를 약속하면서, 인도와 좋은 관계를 원한다고 말했습니다. 쿠레시 장관은 인도가 요청한 용의자 신변 인도에 대해서는 언급하지 않았습니다. 인도 정부가 요청한 용의자 중에는 1993년 뭄바이에서 발생한 250명 사망 테러 사건의 용의자, 다우드 이브라힘도 포함돼 있습니다.

이와 관련해 세릴 레만 파키스탄 정보장관은 파키스탄이 인도의 요청에 응답할 준비를 하고 있다고 말했습니다.

한편 프라납 묵헤르지 인도 외무장관은 2일 인도 텔레비전 방송과의 인터뷰에서, 파키스탄이 책임자에 대해 강력한 조치를 취하지 않는다면 인도-파키스탄 평화 과정의 진전이 어려울 것이라고 말했습니다.

Pakistan has offered to conduct a joint investigation with India into last week's terrorist attacks on Mumbai, as India demands that Pakistan hand over 20 suspected terrorists believed to be living there.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi today (Tuesday) pledged full cooperation and said Islamabad wants good relations with India. He did not address India's request for extradition of terror suspects, including Dawood Ibrahim, the alleged mastermind of a 1993 bombing in Mumbai that left some 250 people dead.

But Pakistan's information minister (Sherry Rehman) said Pakistan is preparing a response to the Indian request, which renews a long-standing Indian demand to hand over the fugitives.

Indian Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee told a local television station (NDTV) it would be "difficult" to proceed with the Indian-Pakistani peace process if Pakistan does not take strong action against those responsible.
