세계 금융위기를 타개하고 새로운 국제금융질서의 토대를 모색하기 위한 주요 20개국(G20) 정상회의가 2일 영국 런던에서 개막했다.
서방선진 7개국(G7) 외에 한국, 중국, 러시아, 브라질, 인도 등 주요 신흥시장국들이 망라된 G20 정상들은 이번 회의에서 지난해 11월 워싱턴에서 열린 첫 회의의 합의를 토대로 대공황 이후 최악의 위기에 처한 세계 경제의 회복 방안과 금융 시스템 강화 방안 등을 논의해 구체적인 이행 방법을 도출할 계획이다.

   각국 정상들은 이와 함께 모든 종류의 보호무역주의에 대한 반대 입장을 확인하고 신흥국 및 개도국 지원을 위한 국제금융기구 재원 확충, 조세피난처와 헤지펀드에 대한 규제 강화 등도 논의할 예정이다.
외신들은 회의 초반 각국 정상들이 개발도상국에 대한 지원을 확대하기 위해 국제통화기금(IMF)의 기금을 현재의 2천500억달러에서 7천500억달러로 늘리기로 합의했다고 보도했다. 미국, 일본, 유럽연합(EU) 등은 앞서 각각 1천억달러를 지원하겠다고 약속했었다.

   소식통들은 또 G20 정상들이 독일과 프랑스의 주장에 따라 금융위기의 재발을 막기 위해 금융시장에 대한 규제를 강화하기로 의견을 모았다고 전했다.
