네팔 군주제 폐지, 민주 공화국 선언 (E)

네팔의 정당 연합체와 공산당은 24일 군주제 폐지를 골자로 하는 협약을 체결했습니다.

네팔 정당 대표들은 이 날 국가 헌정체제를 바꾸는 내용의 협의를 진행했습니다. 앞서 네팔 6개 정당과 공산당은 23일 군주제 폐지와 관련한 23개 조항의 협정을 맺었습니다.

이 날 협정에 따라 네팔 제헌의회는 내년 4월 중순 선거를 실시하게 됩니다. 이 선거는 네팔 민주 공화국 선언 이후 첫 선거가 될 것으로 보입니다.

이들은 또 선거 과정을 바꾸는 것에도 합의했습니다. 이 합의에 따르면 2백40명의 의원들은 직접 선거로, 3백35명은 정당의 득표수에 따라 선출되는 비례대표제로 선출될 예정입니다.

Nepal's former communist rebels have agreed to rejoin the government in a political deal that includes abolishing the country's centuries-old monarchy.

Nepalese political leaders today (Monday) are discussing making changes to the country's interim constitution. The talks come after the Maoists ended a political stalemate Sunday, signing a 23-point agreement with the country's six other political parties.

The group had quit the government in September, after demanding election reform and an immediate end to the monarchy.

Under Sunday's deal, a new Constituent Assembly is to be elected by mid-April of next year. The assembly's first decision is likely to be to declare Nepal a republic.

Political leaders also agreed to changes in the election process. Under the plan, voters will elect 240 assembly members directly and 335 other candidates based on proportional representation, with parties receiving seats based in proportion to the number of votes they win.
