YOUR PICTURE GALLERY IS NOW LOADING... Israeli forces have launched an air and ground offensive in Gaza to try to free a soldier captured by Palestinian militants.

 

Much of the Strip was plunged into darkness after Israeli war planes hit a power station and three bridges.

Backed by tanks and helicopter gunships, the troops are reported to have taken up positions near the town of Rafah.   Israel has been preparing to act since the 19-year-old soldier was seized in a cross-border raid on Sunday.   The soldiers were ordered to launch the assault from near the Israeli community of Kerem Shalom.       Palestinian militants have demanded that women and children held in Israeli jails be freed in exchange for information on the captured soldier.   Israel says the incursion could last several days. 이스라엘 군, 가자 지구 침공 팔레스타인 무장단체에게 병사를 납치당한 이스라엘 군은 28일, 작년에 전면 철수한 가자 지구에 전차와 장갑차로 돌입해, 병사를 석방하도록 팔레스타인 측에 압력을 가했습니다. 이스라엘측은 지난 25일, 팔레스타인 무장단체에 납치된 병사가 무사히 석방된다면 침공을 멈추는 한편, 병사가 신속히 석방되지 못하면 대규모적인 군사작전을 개시한다고 하고 있어, 팔레스타인에 대해 병사를 석방하도록 압력을 가하고 있습니다. 그러나 팔레스타인 무장단체는 철저히 항전할 자세로 병사를 석방할 조짐이 보이지 않아 긴박한 상황이 지속되고 있습니다.(NHK.2006.6.28)
