바이든 대통령 “이스라엘 전폭 지지…필요시 추가 군사자산 투입”

조 바이든 미국 대통령이 10일 백악관에서 하마스의 이스라엘 공격에 대한 미국 정부의 입장에 대해 연설했다.

조 바이든 미국 대통령은 이스라엘에 대한 하마스의 공격을 테러로 규정하고 이스라엘에 대한 전폭적인 지원을 약속했습니다. 어떤 나라도 이번 사태를 기회로 삼지 말라며, 필요한 경우 이스라엘에 추가적인 군사 자산을 투입하겠다고 확인했습니다. 

바이든 대통령은 10일 백악관에서 행한 연설에서 “이번 공격은 수천 년에 걸친 반유대주의와 유대인 학살이 남긴 고통스러운 기억과 상처를 수면 위로 드러냈다”고 말했습니다.

이어 “우리가 이스라엘 편에 서 있음을 지금 이 순간 분명히 해야 한다”며 “우리는 이스라엘이 자국민을 돌보고 자국을 방어하며 이번 공격에 대응하는 데 필요한 것을 확실히 갖추도록 할 것”이라고 확인했습니다.

So, in this moment, we must be crystal clear: We stand with Israel. We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself, and respond to this attack.”

특히 “테러는 정당화될 수 없고, 변명의 여지도 없다”며 “하마스는 팔레스타인인의 존엄과 자결권을 대변하지 않는다”고 지적했습니다.

Its stated purpose is the annihilation of the State of Israel and the murder of Jewish people. They use Palestinian civilians as human shields. Hamas offers nothing but terror and bloodshed with no regard to who pays the price.”

또한 “그들의 목적은 이스라엘 국가의 전멸과 유대인 학살”이라면서 “그들은 팔레스타인을 인간 방패로 사용한다”고 말했습니다. 그러면서 “하마스는 누가 대가를 치르든 상관하지 않고 테러와 유혈 사태만 일으킨다”고 비판했습니다.

바이든 대통령은 “미국은 억지력 강화를 위해 이 지역에 대한 군사 태세를 강화했다”고 말했습니다.

이어 “국방부가 USS 제럴드 포드 항공모함 강습단을 지중해로 이동시키고, 전투기 전력을 강화했다”며 “필요에 따라 추가 자산을 투입할 준비가 돼 있다”고 밝혔습니다.

바이든 대통령은 “이번 상황에 대해 이득을 취하려고 생각하는 모든 국가와 조직, 개인에 다시 한번 말하겠다”며 “그렇게 하지 말라”고 말했습니다.

제이크 설리번 국가안보보좌관은 이날 백악관 브리핑에서 이스라엘에 대한 미국의 군사 지원 계획을 구체적으로 설명했습니다.

[녹취: 설리번 보좌관] “At his direction, the United States has surged ammunition and interceptors for Iron Dome. And the President spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu just a little while ago to talk about additional capabilities that Israel will need, and he pledged that American planes will be landing in Israel with those capabilities in the days ahead.”

설리번 보좌관은 “바이든 대통령의 지시에 따라 미국은 탄약과 아이언돔 방공망을 위한 요격미사일 지원을 늘렸다”고 설명했습니다.

이어 “조금 전 바이든 대통령은 베냐민 네타냐후 이스라엘 총리와 이스라엘이 필요로 하는 추가 역량에 관해 이야기했고, 며칠 내로 이러한 역량을 실은 미국 항공기가 이스라엘에 착륙할 것이라고 약속했다”고 말했습니다.
