"클린턴 국무, 일본인 납북자 가족과 면담 검토"

힐러리 클린턴 미국 국무장관은 아시아 순방의 일환으로 16일부터 일본을 방문하는 동안 일본 정부가 납북자 가족과 만남을 제안한다면 검토해 보겠다는 입장이라고 미국 국무부가 밝혔습니다.

로버트 우드 국무부 대변인 직무대행은 9일, 미국 정부는 납북자 문제의 심각성을 우려해 왔고 이에 대한 해결을 위해 노력하고 있다고 말하면서 이전에도 북한에 이러한 내용을 명백하게 밝혔듯이 앞으로도 그럴 방침이라고 전했습니다.

우드 대변인 직무대행은 일본 정부가 클린턴 장관과 납북자 가족의 만남을 주선하는 내용을 듣지 못했지만 만약 그런 제안이 있다면 클린턴 장관도 검토할 것이라고 답했습니다.

Robert Wood: The U.S. Government, as you know, remains very concerned about the abductees. We've made that case made that point very clearly to the North Koreans in the past. We'll continue to do so. It's a subject of great concern to the United States, as well as to other countries around the world. So but this is the first I have heard of that, but certainly the Secretary would obviously take a look at a proposal from the Government of Japan.
