부토 전 파키스탄 총리 집회장에 자살폭탄 공격, 다수 사망 (E)

파키스탄의 야당 지도자인 베나지르 부토 전 총리를 지지하는 정치 집회에서 자살폭탄 공격이 발생해  여러 사람이 사망했습니다. 부토 전 총리는 라완핀디 시에서 발생한 이번 공격에서 무사했다고, 언론들은 보도했습니다.

이보다 앞서,  라왈핀디 시 인근에서 열린 정치 집회 도중에 무장괴한들이 나와즈 샤리프 전 총리 지지자들에게 발포해 적어도 3명이 사망했다고, 파키스탄 경찰이 밝혔습니다.

이번 총격 사건이 촉발된 원인을 파악하기 위해 노력하고 있는 당국자들은 이번 사건으로 여러 사람이 부상했다고 말했습니다.

샤리프 전 총리의 지지자들은 라왈핀디 시 인근에서 발생한 이번 폭력사태와 관련해 페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령을 지지하는 정당 관계자들을 비난했습니다. 무샤라프 대통령의 파키스탄 무슬림 리그 Q 당은 그같은 비난을 일축했습니다.

샤리프 전 총리와 베나지르 부토 전 총리는 내년 1월 8일 열리는 국회의원 총선거를 앞두고 지지를 얻기 위해 파키스탄 전역을 여행하고 있습니다.

A suicide attack at a rally for opposition leader and Pakistani former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has killed several people.

Reports say Ms. Bhutto was not hurt in the blast which took place in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

Earlier, police said at least three people were killed after gunmen opened fire on supporters of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during a political rally near the same city.

Officials say several others were also wounded in the gunbattle. Authorities are still trying to determine what sparked the incident.

Sharif supporters are blaming members of the party that backs President Pervez Musharraf for the violence. Mr. Musharraf's Pakistan Muslim League-Q party has denied those accusations.

Both Sharif and former prime minister Benazir Bhutto are traveling throughout Pakistan to win support ahead of the country's January eighth parliamentary elections. Sharif is banned from seeking a seat himself due to past criminal convictions.
