부시 대통령 ‘이란 핵활동 중단하면 직접대화’ (E)

조지 부시 미국 대통령은 이란이 논란많은 핵활동을 중단하면 이란과 직접 회담을 가질 것이라고 밝혔습니다.

부시 대통령은 3일 펜실베이니아 주에서 열린 한 행사에 참석, 마흐무드 아마디네자드 이란 대통령은 그동안 이스라엘의 말살 등 도발적인 발언을 해왔다고 지적했습니다.

부시 대통령은 미국이 동맹국인 이스라엘을 수호한다는 것이 자신의 신념이라고 말했습니다.

부시 대통령은 아마디네자드 대통령의 거듭된 도발적 발언에도 불구하고, 그가 핵계획을 중단한다면 미국이 그와 회담을 가질 것이라는 점을 분명히 밝혀왔다고 말했습니다.

President Bush says the United States is willing to hold direct talks with Iran if Tehran halts its controversial nuclear work.

At an event today (Wednesday) in (the U.S. state of) Pennsylvania, Mr. Bush said Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made "provocative statements," including calling for the destruction of Israel.

Mr. Bush said his belief is that the United States will defend its ally Israel. He said the United States has made it clear that in spite of the comments from the Iranian president, the United States is willing to hold talks with him if he suspends his program.

The United States accuses Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program -- a charge Tehran denies.(미국의 소리 2007.10.3)
