라호르 시민들, 해임된 파키스탄 대법원장 열렬히 환영 (Eng)

일방적으로 직무정지됐었던 파키스탄의 이프티카르 초우더리 대법원장이 수천명의 지지자들의 환호를 받으며 동부 라호르 시로 돌아왔습니다. 

장미 꽃잎으로 장식된 초우더리 대법원장을 태운 차량이 라호르 시내를 천천히 통과하는 동안 환호하는 지지자들은 그의 차량을 둘러쌌습니다. 

초우더리 대법원장은 오늘 라호르시 변호사협회에서 연설할 예정입니다.

한편, 4일 파키스탄 경찰은 초우더리 대법원장을 위한 시위에 앞서 이른바 예방조치로 400명을 구금했습니다.

페르베즈 무샤라프 대통령은 지난 3월 초우더리 대법원장을 권한남용 등의 이유로 직무정지했으나, 이에 항의하는 시위가 전국적으로 계속됐었습니다.

Pakistan's suspended chief justice has returned to the eastern city of Lahore where he was welcomed by thousands of supporters.

The automobile carrying Iftikhar Chaudhry was strewn with rose petals and surrounded by cheering supporters today (Saturday) as his motorcade slowly passed through the streets of Lahore.

Chaudhry is due to deliver a speech to the city's Court Bar Association.

On Friday, police in Lahore detained about 400 opposition activists ahead of the demonstration for Chaudhry in what authorities called a preventive measure.

President Pervez Musharraf suspended Chaudhry in March, charging him with misconduct. Chaudhry and his supporters argue his suspension is not constitutional.

Demonstrations have been held across Pakistan since the suspension. (미국의 소리 2007.5.5)
