태국의 새 헌법 초안이 공개됐습니다. 헌법 초안은 총리의 임기를 제한하고, 하원의원 수를 줄이는 내용 등을 담고 있습니다.

탁신 시나와트라 전 태국 총리

태국 군사정부는 지난해 탁신 시나와트라 전총리를 쿠데타로 축출했으며, 7개월만에 300페이지에 달하는 새 헌법 초안을 공개했습니다. 군부에 의해 임명된 35명의 위원들이 초안을 작성했습니다.

헌법 초안에 따르면 총리는 4년 임기로 재임만이 허용됩니다. 또한 하원의원 수는 100명으로 줄었으며 상원의원은 선출이 아니라 임명한다는 내용도 들어있습니다.

태국 정부는 향후 헌법 초안에 대한 국민 홍보를 거친 뒤 8월이나 9월에 국민 투표를 실시할 계획입니다.

A new proposed constitution for Thailand calls for a limit on the prime minister's term in office and a reduction in the number of elected members in the lower house of parliament.

Details of the nearly 300-page draft are being released seven months after the military coup that ousted Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. A 35-member committee appointed by the military wrote the new proposal.

Under the draft, a prime minister would only be able to serve two four-year terms, the number of elected members in the lower house would be reduced by 100, and the upper house would be appointed, rather than elected.

The Thai government has planned a public campaign to promote the proposal before it is voted on in August or September.
