미국, 러시아의 반정부 시위 단속 비난 (Eng)

미국은 러시아 경찰이 선거를 앞두고 반정부 시위대와 언론사를 대상으로 단속을 벌인데 대해 비난했습니다.

미국 백악관은 러시아 경찰이 모스크바 상트페테르부르크 광장에서 벌어진 시위를 강제 해산시킨  데 대해 “가혹한 진압 방법에 대해 깊이 우려하고 있다”는 입장을 밝혔습니다.

미국 국무부도 러시아 치안 당국의 행위는 주민의 표현의 자유와 정치 참여 노력을 억압하려는 것으로 보인다고 비난했습니다.

독일 정부 대변인은 경찰의 시위 진압을 ‘용납할 수 없는 것’이라고 비난했습니다. 독일은 러시아 당국의 해명도 요구했습니다. 독일은 현재 유럽연합의 순회 의장국입니다.

한편 로이터 통신이 전한 바에 따르면, 러시아 정부 대변인은 매우 급진적인 시위대가 법을 어기는 것을 막기 위해 진압에 나선 것이라고 말했습니다.

The United States has criticized a crackdown by Russian police on anti-Kremlin protesters and news media in the run-up to national elections.

The White House says it is "deeply disturbed with the heavy-handed manner" by which Russian authorities broke up rallies in St. Petersburg and Moscow.

The State Department called the actions an apparent attempt by Russian security services to stifle freedom of ｅxpression and interfere in efforts to participate in the political process.

In Berlin, a German government spokesman (Thomas Steg) called the police crackdown "unacceptable" and said Germany expects an explanation from Moscow. Germany holds the rotating European Union presidency.

The Reuters news agency quotes a Kremlin spokesman (Dmitry Peskov) as describing the police action as an effort to stop what he called "ultra-radicals" from violating law and order.(미국의 소리 2007.4.16)
