마흐무드 아흐마디네자드 이란 대통령은 우라늄 농축을 중단하라는 유엔 안보리의 요구에도 불구하고, 오히려 농축 활동을 더욱 확대했다고 말했습니다.

아흐마디네자드 대통령은 9일 나탄즈 핵시설에서 열린 기념식에서, 이란이 산업화 규모로 우라늄을 농축하고 있다고 말했습니다.

알리 라리자니 이란 핵 협상관은 이란이 3천여개의 원심분리기에 농축을 위한 우라늄 가수 주입을 이미 시작했다고 말했습니다.

골람 레자 아가자데 이란 원자력기구 의장도 이란이 우라늄 농축에 필요한 원심분리기를 대량으로 생산하기 시작했다고 말했습니다.

유엔 안보리는 이란이 우라늄 농축 중단 요구를 거부한 데 따라 지난해 12월 이후 이미 두 차례나 제재를 부과했습니다. 우라늄 농축은 핵 무기 개발에 이용될 수 있습니다.

미국 국무부 션 매코맥 대변인은 이란 대통령의 연설은 국제사회에 대한 계속적인 도전을 보여준다고 말했습니다. 그러면서 이란에 대한 안보리 제재가 정당하고 옳았음이 드러났다고 덧붙였습니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country has expanded a key nuclear process that the United Nations Security Council demanded it stop.

Mr. Ahmadinejad told a ceremony today (Monday) at Iran's nuclear facility at Natanz that Iran is enriching uranium on an "industrial scale."

Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, said Iran had begun to feed uranium gas into three thousand centrifuges for enrichment -- a major expansion of the process.

The head of Iran's nuclear energy agency (Gholam Reza Aghazadeh) told the ceremony that Iran is starting to mass-produce the centrifuges needed to enrich uranium.

The U.N. Security Council has passed two resolutions imposing sanctions on Iran since December for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment, a process which can be used to make nuclear weapons.

U.S. State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the Iranian president's speech shows Iran's continued defiance of the international community. The spokesman said the speech showed that U.N. action against Iran is legitimate and justified.(미국의 소리 2007.4.9)
