미군 유해반환 대표단, 북한 김계관 부상 면담 (Eng)

미국 대표단이 50여년 전 한국전쟁중에  전사한 미군들의 유해를 반환 받기 위해 현재 북한을 방문하고 있습니다.

대표단은 8일 평양에 도착해9일 김계관 북한 외무성 부상과  만났습니다.

대표단의 앤소니 프린시피 전 미 보훈처 장관은  면담 후 기자들에게  김 부상이 마카오에서 동결된 북한 관련자금 2천500만 달러가 해제되는 즉시 유엔 핵사찰단의 방북을 허용할 것임을 내비쳤다고 말했습니다.

오는 2008년 미국 대통령선거 민주당측 경선자인 빌 리처드슨 뉴멕시코 주지사가 이끄는 이 초당적 대표단에는 프린시피 전 보훈처 장관과 백악관의 최고위 북한 자문관 빅터 차 씨가 포함돼 있습니다.

이번 방북은 북한의 초청으로 이뤄졌고 부시 행정부도 이번 방문을 승인했습니다.

A U.S. delegation is in North Korea to try to recover the remains of U.S. soldiers killed in the Korean war more half a century ago.

The bipartisan group arrived Sunday and is headed by a 2008 Democratic presidential hopeful, New Mexico state Governor Bill Richardson. It also includes the Bush administration's former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Anthony Principi, and the White House's top North Korea advisor, Victor Cha.

North Korea invited the delegation, and the Bush administration has endorsed the trip.

The armistice agreement that ended the Korean War in 1953 contains provisions on the repatriation of remains from the conflict.

The White House says the U.S. government has invested "considerable energy" persuading North Korea to adhere to those provisions.(미국의 소리 2007.4.9)
