파키스탄 대통령, 새 대법원장 대행 임명 (Eng)

파키스탄 대통령, 페르베스 무샤라프 장군은 자신이 직무정지 조치를 취한 이프티카르 모하메드 초드리 대법원장의 직무를 수행할 새 대법원장 대행을 임명했습니다.

대법원장 대행으로 임명된  라나 바그완다스 파키스탄 대법원 수석판사는 며칠 안에  대법원장 대행으로 취임선서를 할 예정입니다. 바그완다스 대법원 판사는 초드리 대법원장에 대한 권력남용 등 혐의에 관해 조사하고 있는 대법원심사위원회 구성원의 한 사람입니다.

파키스탄에서는 초드리 대법원장에 대한 무샤라프 대통령의 직무정지 조치가 내려진 지난 9일 이래 법조인들과 야당 지도자, 시민단체 등이 무샤라프 장군의 조치에 항의하며 거의 매일 시위를 벌이고 있습니다.

Pakistan's president today (Thursday) appointed a second acting chief justice to replace suspended chief justice, Iftikhar Chaudhry.

The most senior justice on the nation's Supreme Court, Rana Bhagwandas, is expected to take the oath of office as acting chief justice within the next two days.

Bhagwandas had been out of the country, but returned to Pakistan Wednesday. He will replace the current acting chief justice, Javed Iqbal.

The judicial upheaval follows the March 9th decision by military ruler Pervez Musharraf to suspend Justice Chaudhry, alleging abuse of power. General Musharraf also referred Chaudhry to a top judicial panel.

Justice Bhagwandas will serve on that panel, which is scheduled to hear the case against Chaudhry on April 3rd.

His suspension has caused a public outcry against General Musharraf. Lawyers have held almost daily protests, claiming the president's move was an attempt to interfere with the independence of the judiciary. (미국의 소리 2007.3.22)
