자크 시라크 프랑스 전 대통령 86세로 별세

자크 시라크 프랑스 전 대통령이 26일 오전(현지 시간) 별세했다. 향년 86세.

"시라크 (전) 대통령이 오늘 아침 가족들이 지켜보는 가운데 편안하게 숨을 거뒀다"고 시라크 대통령의 사위가 AFP 통신에 밝혔다.

40여 년 간 프랑스 정계의 중심에 있던 시라크 전 대통령은 세 차례 도전 끝에 지난 1995년 대통령에 당선됐고, 2002년에 재선에 성공했다.

대표적인 업적으로는 재임 기간 대통령 임기를 7년제에서 5년제로 바꾼 것과 유럽 단일 통화 도입을 주도한 것 등이 꼽힌다.

또 2003년 미국의 이라크 침공에 강력히 반대한 것으로 잘 알려져 있다.

그는 1995-2007년까지 대통력직을 수행하는 가운데 2005년 뇌졸증을 앓았고, 그후 급격히 건강히 악화된 것으로 알려졌다
