카터 전 미국 대통령, '이스라엘, 150개 핵폭탄 보유' (E)

이스라엘이 적어도 1백50기의 핵 폭탄을 보유하고 있다고  미국의 지미 카터 전 대통령이 폭로했습니다.

카터 전 대통령은  지난 25일 영국 웨일즈에서 가진 기자회견에서, 이란의 핵무장에 대해 차기 미국 대통령이 어떻게 대응해야 할지를 묻는 질문에, 미국과 이스라엘 등은 정밀 타격 능력을 갖춘 핵무기를 상당량 보유하고 있다며 이같이 말했습니다.

이스라엘의 핵무기에 관한 이같은 언급은 미국의 전현직 관리로서는 보기 드문 일입니다.

이스라엘은 지난 수십년 동안 핵무기 보유에 관한 보도에 대해 확인도 부인도 하지 않는 정책을 취해 왔으며, 미국도 같은 노선을 취했습니다.

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter has revealed that Israel has at least 150 nuclear weapons -- a rare disclosure from a past or current U.S. official about the nuclear status of the Jewish state.

For decades, Israel has refused to confirm or deny reports that it has nuclear weapons. U.S. officials have generally stuck to that line in recent years.

Mr. Carter spoke on Sunday at a news conference in Wales, where he was asked how a future U.S.president should deal with the prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran. The former president responded by saying that the United States, Israel and other powers have enormous nuclear arsenals that can be deployed with pinpoint accuracy.

He said the U.S. has 12-thousand atomic weapons while Israel has, as he put it, "150 or more."
