아마디네자드 이란 대통령, '핵 시설에 원심분리기 3천개 전면 가동 중' (E)

마흐무드 아마디네자드 이란 대통령은 이란은 우라늄 농축을 위해 3천개의 원심분리기를 개발했고, 이 원심분리기들은 현재 전면 가동 중이라고 말했습니다.

아마디네자드 대통령은 7일 이란 동부의 비르잔드 시에서 벌어진 한 군중 시위에서 이 같이 밝혔습니다.

앞서 아마디네자드 대통령은 이란의 핵 계획을 중단하라는 국제사회의 요구에 대한 저항의 표시로 나탄즈 핵 시설에 성공적으로 수천개의 원심분리기 설치했다고 주장한 바 있습니다.

하지만 나탄즈 핵시설에 3천개의 원심분리기가 작동되고 있다는 공식적인 발표는 오늘이 처음입니다.

원심분리기는 원자력 발전소의 연료 생산을 위한 우라늄 농축에 사용됩니다. 하지만 농축 우라늄은 핵무기에 사용될 수 있습니다. 

지난주, 유엔안전보장이사회의 5개 상임이사국과 독일은 이달 후반부터 이란에 3번째 제재를 가하는데 동의했습니다. 안보리는 제재를 가하기 이전에 이란의 핵 현황에 관해 국제원자력기구의 보고를 들을 예정입니다.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country has built 3,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment and the machines are fully operating.

Mr. Ahmadinejad made the announcement today (Wednesday) at a public rally in the eastern city of Birjand.

The Iranian president has previously claimed successes in installing thousands of centrifuges at the Natanz nuclear facility, in a show of defiance of international demands to stop the program.

But today's claim is the first official statement that the facility is fully operating with 3,000 centrifuges.

Centrifuges are used in enriching uranium -- a process that can produce fuel for a nuclear power plant, and also material for nuclear weapons.

Last week, the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany agreed to impose a third set of sanctions against Iran later this month, pending a report by the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency on Iran's sensitive nuclear work.
