이스라엘 신임 대통령 직에 ‘시몬 페레스’ 취임 (E)

이스라엘에서 시몬 페레스 씨가 새 대통령으로 취임했습니다.

페레스 신임 대통령은 15일 의전에 관계되는 일을 주로 맡게되는 이스라엘 대통령 직을, 팔레스타인과 아랍 이웃 나라들과의 평화 과정을 활성화시키는데 이용할 것이라고 말했습니다.

페레스 신임 대통령은 성희롱과 권력 남용 혐의의 실형을 면하기 위한 플리 바겐, 즉 유죄답변거래의 일환으로 사임한 모셰 카차브 전 대통령의 뒤를 잇게됩니다.

앞서 15일 이스라엘은 이스라엘에 대한 공격을 중단하겠다는 다짐에 서명한 파타 운동 소속의 과격분자 수배자 180명에 대한 색출 작업을 중단한다는 데에 동의했습니다.

이같은 사면 조치는 팔레스타인의 마흐무드 압바스 자치정부 수반의 온건파 정부를 지지하기 위해 이스라엘의 에후드 올메르트 총리가 취하고 있는 여러 조치들가운데 하나입니다.

Shimon Peres has been sworn in as Israel's president.

Mr. Peres said today (Sunday) he will use his largely ceremonial post to encourage the peace process with the Palestinians and Israel's Arab neighbors.

Mr. Peres replaces Moshe Katsav, who resigned as part of plea bargain to avoid being charged with rape and abuse of power.

Earlier today, Israel agreed to stop hunting about 180 wanted Fatah militants who have signed a pledge to stop attacks against the Jewish state.

The amnesty is one of several gestures by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert to support the moderate government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Israeli officials also say they will allow overseas-based leaders of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine to visit the West Bank. <미국의 소리 2007.7.15>
