필리핀 대통령 측근, 주지사 선거유세중 피살 (Eng)

필리핀 주지사 선거에 출마한 글로리아 아로요 대통령의 측근 정치인이 오늘(7일) 선거 유세도중 암살됐습니다.

필리핀 경찰은 북부 카링가주 주지사 선거에 출마한 57세의 롬멜 디아센 후보가 유세 연설 도중 총탄 여러발을 맞고 쓰려졌다고 말했습니다. 디아센씨는 병원으로 옮겨져 치료를 받던 도중 숨졌습니다.

경찰은 이번 암살이 정치적, 지역적 갈등으로 인한 동기에서 이뤄진 것으로 보고 수사를 진행하고 있습니다.

A Philippine political candidate and ally of President Gloria Arroyo was shot and killed today (Saturday) at a rally to launch his campaign for provincial governor.

Police say Rommel Diasen, a 57-year-old candidate for governor in the northern province of Kalinga, was shot several times while delivering a campaign speech. He later died at a hospital while being treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say they are looking into political as well as local disputes as a possible motive for the shooting.

Elections in the Philippines can be violent. Next month (on May 14th), voters will elect
