일본 혼다 자동차가 개발한 인간형 로봇. 신장 120cm, 체중 34kg, 나이 2세. 세계 최초로 두 다리로 보행하면서 방향을 트는 능력을 갖춘 로봇으로 내장된 카메라로 영상·음성을 식별할 수 있다. 혼다 자동차는 올 연초부터 기업·법인에 빌려주는 임대사업을 시작해 아시모는 1월 13일 일본 과학미래관의 직원으로 정식 채용됐다. 직책은 해설원이며 연봉(임대료)은 2,000만엔(약 1억9,000원)으로 박물관의 간부직원과 같은 대우를 받는다. 연봉 외에 전기를 특별근무수당으로 지급받는다

 상대방의 얼굴을 인식하여 이름을 부를 수 있게 된 것은 로봇과 인간과의 친화적인 면과 나아가 방범이나 치안에 로봇이 사용될 수 있는 가능성을 내비쳤다는 점에서 매우 중요

ㅁ 사람의 얼굴을 식별하여 인사를 하고 기업의 데이터베이스와 접속하여 인간의 질문에 상담을 해줄 수 있는 능력을 겸비

      -> 일정한 내용의 데이터베이스가 구축되어 있는 회사라면 아시모가 안내인의 역할을 할 수도 있다.( 전화번호 안내, 도로 안내와 같은 단순정보 제공 /  노트북이나 디지털카메라를 비롯한 전자제품에 대한 상담 가능)
