Global 'Obamamania'

Around the world people are preparing for US President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration. Celebrations are taking place in his father's birthplace, the Kenyan village of Nyangoma Kogelo

 

The village is around 300km from Nairobi, but you can't fail to be aware of the inauguration in the Kenyan capital.

 

Villagers in Moneygall, County Offaly, Ireland, are putting out the flags. The president-elect's fourth great-grandfather was a shoemaker in the village.

 

On offer in Khartoum: A "Barack Obama haircut". A barber shop, named after the US president-elect, has opened in the popular Al-Merkezi souk in the Sudanese capital

 

Indian artist Darla Nageswara Rao (left) has used more than 33,000 coloured stickers on his portrait of Barack Obama. The work has taken 160 hours to complete.

Even communist China has been infected with "Obamamania" - a street stall in Shanghai sells a T-shirts emblazoned with pictures of the US's soon to be new President
