클린턴 미국 국무장관, 인도네시아 방문

아시아 각국을 순방중인 미국의 클린턴 국무장관은 오늘 오후, 일본에 이어 인도네시아에 도착했습니다.

클린턴 국무장관은 인도네시아의 수도 자카르타 교외의 공항에 전용기편으로 도착해, 오바마 대통령이 소년시대에 다녔던 소학교 학생들의 환영을 받았습니다.

미국의 국무장관이 취임 후 얼마 되지 않아 외국방문으로 인도네시아를 방문한 것은 이례적인 일입니다.

내일까지 체제하면서 클린턴 장관은 인도네시아의 유도요노 대통령과 핫산 외상, 그리고 동남아시아국가연합ASEAN의 스린 사무국장과 회담할 예정입니다.

클린턴 장관은 2억 명이라는 세계 최대의 이슬람교도를 안고 있는 인도네시아와의 전략적인 협력을 강화함으로써 이라크전쟁을 계기로 악화된 미국과 이슬람 사회와의 관계를 회복하기 위한 실마리를 모색하는 한편, 동남아시아지역과의 관계를 강화하려는 의도가 있는 것으로 보입니다.
