Deng Xiaoping visited the United States in January of 1979

In January of 1979, Deng Xiaoping visited the United States. This was the first visit of Chinese leader to U.S.A. since the founding of the People's Republic of China. President Jimmy Carter held a welcoming ceremony at White House in his honor.
