북한정부 건국 63주년 기념 주요 사진

북로당은 1945년 10월 평양에서 열린 <조선공산당 서북5도 당책임자 밀 열성자 대회>에서 채택한 <정치노선과 조직강화에 관한 결정서>에 의거, 창설된 <조선공산당 북조선분국>을 모체로 하고 있다
같은 해 8월 29일 중국 옌안(延安)에서 평양으로 돌아온 조선독립동맹을 중심으로 지식층, 소시민층을 망라하고 있던 조선신민당과 합당 북조선노동당으로 발족하였다 합당선언에서 북조선 노동대중의 이익을 옹호하는 대중적 정당을 세울 필요에 의해서 결성되었다고 밝혔다
강령으로 민주주의적 조선자주독립국가 건설, 일본인. 민족반역자. 지주의 토지몰수와 토지없는 농민에게 무상분배, 일본인 및 민족반역자 소유의 공장. 광산. 철도. 운수.통신기관등의 국유화, 8시간 노동제 실시, 여자들에게 남자와 동등한 임금지급등을 내걸었다 북조선노동당 위원장에 김두봉(부산출신이며 독립동맹주석 출신), 부위원장에 김일성(소련군 극동사령부 정찰국 대대장 출신). 허가이(로모노소프대학 출신이며  우즈벡공화국 타슈겐트주 당비서 출신)가 선출되었다
북로당은 1948년 8월 정권수립을 위해 남조선노동당과 <연합위원회>를 구성하였고 정권수립(1948년 9월 9일)이후인 1949년 6월 30일과 7월 1일 평양에서 비공개로 열린 남북노동당 중앙위원회에서 1국1당 원칙에 따라 현재의 조선노동당으로 통합되어 오늘에 이르고 있다
